Our Curriculum

You would be amazed at what a child can do when they are given the time, space and freedom to explore.
Cambrai Early Learning Centre is committed to providing a high quality curriculum based on children’s interests and needs. We are guided by the National Quality Standards and the Early Years Learning Framework.
We understand that children learn best through play and therefore run a play-based curriculum.
Play in the early years is vital for children and is the best way to set foundations for later learning. We aim to provide children with enough time, space and freedom to become independent learners, using intentional teaching strategies to scaffold children’s learning. We understand that all children are unique and learn in a variety of ways, which is why our curriculum is always changing to meet the interests and needs of the children.

Imagine a child building a tower using blocks- as adults we see this as 'just playing'.
What we don't see is the child learning problem solving skills, developing their imagination, self expression, mathematical concepts such as length, measurement, comparison, number, estimation, symmetry and balance, spacial awareness, creativity, scientific concepts such as hypothesising and experimenting, building self esteem and even developing their social and emotional wellbeing through turn taking, cooperation, concentration and new friendships.

Transition to School
We believe that preparation for school begins early on. We can contribute to strong foundations for learning by supporting children's social and emotional wellbeing, developing self help skills and independence, igniting a sense of curiosity and a love of learning. All of these skills are learnt through our play based learning curriculum.

A child has an interest in volcanoes and asks, "Why do volcanoes explode?" Instead of telling the child the answer, the Educator will support the child to find the answer for themselves. This way they can develop problem solving and research skills which are so important for schooling!

We collaborate with the local schools to ensure we have the most current information and can provide children with a smooth transition to school.

Children in the 3-5 years room are offered a 'PreLit' Program.
PreLit is a systematic, skills-based program that lays a sound foundation for children to learn to read. It provides early childhood teachers with the tools necessary to teach pre-literacy skills and concepts in a fun and engaging way, focusing on phonological awareness and oral language development through structured storybook reading.
Evidence-based, best practice program which is appropriate for all children regardless of skill level
